Liam Maguire is an Australian writer, director and actor.
He is a graduate of VCA’s Masters of Writing for Performance and WAAPA’s Acting program.

Liam’s second play Shepherd, an absurd satire on the cult of modern living, premiered at Belvoir Downstairs in early 2020, marking Liam’s second production as both playwright and director. “Liam Maguire’s writing voice is one that cannot be ignored. During the lockdowns, he became an associate artist with Theatre Works and a participant in the National Young Writers festival. In 2022, his screenplay for the romcom short film Shredding was directed by Charlotte Nicdao of Tough Crowd Films. More recently, with the support of Screen Australia, he’s been developing a TV series with musician Ben Abraham and director Debs Paterson titled Are We Good?, a dark-humoured dramedy about the clashing world of queerness and christianity. He has also been completing a playwriting commission for London based theatre producer Maryann Wright titled We Interrupt Your Regular Scheduled Programming.
As a dramaturg, Liam has worked on a number of projects, such as Antoinette Barbouttis’ Sylvania Waters with Performing Lines, and more recently Vita Carbone’s Northsiders’ webseries.
As a performer, Liam has worked professionally in a variety of stage, screen and voice over alike. His acting credits include Joe vs Carol (STAN/NBC) Neighbours (Channel 10), City Homicide (Channel 7), Dead Gorgeous (ABC) and Lachlan Philpott’s Little Emperors for Malthouse Theatre. He’s been involved in a number of creative developments for major companies such as Malthouse, MTC and Ilbijerri Theatre Company and worked as an understudy on Melbourne Theatre Company’s Berlin and Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes.
